Aquatic - a pretty open-ended subject. This is what happened when I sat down to draw. (I never really know who'll show up under my pencil!) Posted by Hello

  1. I've just seen your work for the first time having only just discovered IF. I love it. The composition is wonderful

  3. I love your drawings! Here's a dorky question: what pencils do you use to get your darks so dark? They are almost black!
I know what you mean about never knowing what is going to come out of your pencil... my favorite drawings are ones that are unplanned, I start with a couple lines and then sometimes something wonderful appears!

  4. I really appreciate all the positive feedback. Thanks! As for what kind of pencils I use (not a dorky question, at all!) - I used a mechanical pencil with 2H leads. HB leads (slightly softer) will give you nice dark lines too but there's more of a smudging problem. The mechanical pencil allows for a nice sharp point all the time.

  5. Hey Cheryl, I picked up your blog on Carolyn's. Curious: How large are your drawings? Do you illustrate professionally? The boy with the ice cream is my favorite. Was it for a story or did you just do it for fun?

  6. Hey, Chuck....The aquatic drawing is about 6in. square, the ice cream boy which was done just for fun, prompted by the Illustration Friday challenge, is about 5in. square .... they all seem to want to be pretty small. I illustrate children's books (when I get the chance - strictly free-lance) but I'm spending more and more time on my fabric pieces which are just for me. Thanks for dropping by!
