Rusty

We haven't made cookies in such a long time. We have a whole bunch of ideas, but we need to practise to get comfortable again. We like to use wax paper cones for piping the icing. We found the trickiest bit of the whole process may just be getting the consistency of the icing right. And getting the colours right. And, now, working around the humidity. We dragged out our old food dehydrator. It seems to do the trick.

We had a general idea of what we wanted to 'paint',
but we didn't worry too much about making all the cookies identical.
Spontaneous is more fun!

Here's the sketch:

These are big cookies. About 4 inches wide!
My grandmother's shortbread cookie recipe.

Have a sweet day!

  1. I suppose that those wouldn't mail very well. :)

  2. Oh, I LOVE those! The orange kitty looks just like my Rusty. With a little imagination, the other could be Ginger. I don't think you're getting rusty at all. I've never seen cookies like those. I think they are extremely attractive!

  4. I don't think that you are rusty in the decorating department at all. These are wonderful and very cute.

For Kate: Decorated sugar cookies will mail quite well as long as they are packaged individually in their own little bag and lots of tissue is used to divide and support them in the cookie box. Once the cookies are packaged and arranged in the cookie box, they should be inserted into a larger box for shipping. Using lots of paper, or bubble wrap or shipping popcorn to stabilize the cookie box so there is no movement between it and the shipping box the cookies should arrive at their destination safe and sound. Hope this helps everyone :)
